NELSON LAY

Black Belt · Head Coach · Founder

Nelson is one of the highest-ranked competing BJJ black belts in Oceania, and one of the few coaches in Australia bringing modern sports science into how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is taught.

He's been training BJJ since 2007 and teaching it for over a decade. He holds a double degree in Exercise Science and Sport Management, with Honours in Exercise Physiology, and has spent years teaching exericse science at Deakin University and teaching BJJ across Australia and overseas.

Nelson started Good Jiu Jiu because he believes BJJ should be accessible to everyone, not just the people who already fit the martial arts mould. His coaching is grounded, evidence-based, and built around the idea that the right environment changes everything.
